Variations + Substitutions

  • Ginger Tea: Traditionally used to alleviate stomach aches, this also helps stimulate digestion. Add 1 inch of fresh ginger for a kick of spice.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: Make this a detox tea when adding this. It raises stomach acid levels to help cure indigestion too.
  • Fennel Tea: Use fennel as a substitute for fenugreek. Keep in mind, the taste will be significantly sweeter. However, fennel can prevent stomach ulcers.
  • Dandelion Extract: This provides a natural, earthy flavor. A study proved that it helps protect ulcers by decreasing inflammation and the production of stomach acid.
  • Add Chocolate: Eliminate the lemon, and make this a chocolate peppermint tea by adding 2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder for a chocolatey treat after dinner.

Tips To Make The Best Tea For Digestion

  • This beverage is best served warm. According to Ayurveda, an ancient Indian medical practice focused on holistic health, the temperature of a beverage affects how easily the body digests it. Warm or room temperature liquid is better than cold liquid because it increases circulation in your digestion system.
  • Properly store tea leaves before and after use in an airtight container in a dry, cool space.
  • Do not let the tea steep for too long. The ideal steeping time for digestive tea is 5-10 minutes. That’s enough time to extract the flavor without the tea becoming bitter.
