Bladderwrack is a type of seaweed packed with vitamins and minerals, offering a ton of incredible health benefits of its own, including increasing your thyroid health, aiding in digestion, and cleansing the body! Cinnamon
Cinnamon has incredible medicinal properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and antimicrobial properties that help to improve blood sugar, fight bad bacteria, reduce inflammation, and improve digestive health.
Cayenne Pepper

Gummy Bear Kit
I like to use a silicone gummy bear mold because the gummy bears easily set and pop right out once they are ready. There is no need to spray the silicone mold with oil spray or non-stick. Agar-Agar
Agar-Agar is a vegan gelatin made from red algae. It has no flavor, no odor, no color, and is completely vegan, non-GMO, and gluten-free! It can be used to replace regular gelatin, which is typically made from animal body parts. Here is the Agar Agar Powder I used: Living Jin Agar Agar Powder
How to Use Agar-Agar Powder
In order to activate agar-agar powder, it has to be heated. To activate it, simply:
- Grab a medium-sized saucepan and place it over medium-high heat.
- Add the liquid and agar-agar powder, making sure to stir it thoroughly to remove any chunks. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat. Then, stir in the sea moss gel mixture until it is fully incorporated and let it come to a low boil, about 2-3 minutes.
- Stir the mixture to make sure the sea moss gel mixture and agar-agar are fully incorporated. Remove the mixture from the heat. (The entire process of activating the agar-agar and mixing in the sea moss gel should take no more than 3-5 minutes)
- Move quickly, use the liquid dropper and transfer the sea moss gel mixture into the gummy bear cavities.
PRO TIP: I really want to emphasize that once you add the sea moss gel to the agar-agar mixture, YOU MUST WORK QUICKLY to transfer the mixture into the molds. Agar-agar sets extremely fast and you want to avoid the mixture solidifying in the saucepan.

How to Make Elderberry Ginger Infused Sea Moss Gummies

For the best results, I highly recommend using freshly made (homemade) sea moss gel (not purchased sea moss gel). You can also use regular sea moss gel that has not been infused with elderberry and ginger.

Once you have your Sea Moss Gel ready, add the cinnamon, bladderwrack, cayenne pepper, maple syrup, and blend until the ingredients are fully incorporated. Measure 1 cup of the mixture and set it aside.

In a medium-sized saucepan, prepare the agar-agar (according to the instructions above). Stir in the sea moss gel mixture until it is fully incorporated, and let boil for about 2-3 minutes.

Now it is time to move quickly. Remove the sea moss gel mixture from the heat. Using the liquid dropper, transfer the sea moss gel mixture into the gummy bear openings. 1 cup of the sea moss gel mixture should fill at least 3 (53 Cavities) gummy bear molds (usually fills 3-4 gummy bear molds).

Elderberry Sea Moss Gummies with Bladderwrack and Ginger
Ingredients
- 1 cup Elderberry Ginger Infused Sea Moss Gel (Or Plain Sea Moss Gel)
- 1 tbsp Bladderwrack
- 1/2 cup Maple Syrup (can sub with Agave or Honey)
- 2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper more or less as desired
- 1/4 cup Lemon, juiced (or Key Lime, juiced)
Agar-Agar Mixture
- 2 tbsp Agar-Agar
- 1/2 cup Elderberry Ginger Liquid Or Plain Alkaline Water
Instructions
- Start with 6 ounces of freshly blended elderberry ginger sea moss gel (recipe linked below) or regular sea moss gel. Add the bladderwrack, maple syrup, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice to the sea moss gel in a blender. Blend until the ingredients are fully incorporated. Set Aside.
Activating the Agar-Agar
- In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add Elderberry Ginger Liquid (see notes below) and agar-agar powder. Stir continuously to remove any chunks. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat. Then, stir in the sea moss gel mixture until it is fully incorporated and let it come to a low boil, about 2-3 minutes.
- Then, stir in the sea moss gel mixture until it is fully incorporated and let it come to a low boil, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir the mixture to make sure the sea moss gel mixture and agar-agar are fully incorporated. Remove the mixture from the heat. (The entire process of activating the agar-agar and mixing in the sea moss gel should take no more than 3-5 minutes)
- ***If the mixture is too thick (and cannot be squeezed into the liquid dropper), gradually stir more liquid into the mixture over medium heat until it is fully incorporated and sea moss gel mixture thins out. Start with adding 1/2 cup of liquid (alkaline water, 100% apple juice, or Elderberry Ginger Liquid). If you add more than 1/2 cup liquid (try not to add more than 1 cup liquid), mix in 2 teaspoons of agar agar powder and bring the mixture to a boil for 1-2 minutes. Stir and remove from heat and proceed to the next step.
Making the Sea Moss Gummies
- Move quickly and use the liquid dropper to transfer the sea moss gel mixture into the gummy bear cavities.
- The gummy bears will immediately begin to set. Transfer the gummy bear mold into the fridge and allow them at least 1 hour to fully solidify.
- After the gummies have set, remove the gummies from the mold and transfer them to an airtight mason jar. Store the gummies in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.

I don’t understand, you mentioned that boiling the sea moss wood kill the nutrients. So isn’t the nutrients lost when you’re adding the sea moss to the agar agar? Or is there just no other way around it?
Boiling the sea moss is a method people use when making sea moss gel. I prefer to soak it raw to maintain the highest integrity and nutrient content. Therefore, exposing the sea moss to a minimal amount of heat in this recipe is fine. You can also cook with sea moss and add it to hot drinks and it still provides incredible nutrient benefits.
Boiling sea moss when making sea moss gel, and adding sea moss gel to hot foods/while cooking are two different things and not to be confused with one another.

Please help me troubleshoot making these! I made the elderberry sea moss gel the night before and refrigerated it. It was pretty solidly gelled when I got ready to make the gummies. I blended the gel with the remaining ingredients, but it was much darker than your pics, and too thick to use the droppers, and about twice the amount needed to fill the three gummie mold trays. I tried spreading it on the trays with a spatula, but then piped it out of a baggie with the corner cut off. That worked pretty well, and scraped the excess off with a spatula. I put the excess in some small bowls that, hopefully it will pop out of when solid and I can cut it into cubes.
I’m assuming that because the sea moss was so gelled already, that packing the measuring cup added too much? I don’t know, please help me, I want to successfully make these!!
Hi Pam! The thickness of the sea moss gel should not have been an issue. Although I do not “pack” the measuring cup. I’ve made these gummies countless times with thick sea moss and it hasn’t been a problem. However, if you find your sea moss gel too thick when you are making it, you can always add a bit of alkaline water to thin it out. (To note: the color of the elderberry liquid is not an issue at all. The color varies depending on how long you boil the dried elderberries and how much you use)
How did the mixture turn out when you added the elderberry ginger sea moss gel to the pan with the agar-agar? I’ve found that when I add it to the heat with the agar agar liquid, the sea moss turns into a more fluid consistency. In my experience, one cup of the sea moss gel mixture fills 3-4 gummy molds.

But now the molds have been chilling in the fridge for about 2 hours, and they don’t seem to have set up any. I’m assuming I can just eat a spoonful or 2 a day and get the same benefits? But I will definitely try again next week, when I can do the whole process in one day!

Hi Azari! I would talk to your doctor about taking it while pregnant. As for making the gummies, 1 cup of sea moss gel fills about 3 gummy silicone mat with 53 openings on each. To make the sea moss elderberry Ginger water you boil about 1/4 cup elderberries with 2” of ginger and 2 cups of water, until the water reduces by half or about 30 minutes. I made these and I taste the cayenne and the gummies are very gel like. Is this how it’s supposed to be.?
Hi, the cayenne shouldn’t overpower the flavors too much, but if you find it does, feel free to use less or omit it next time. And because these gummies are made with agar agar, the consistency wont be hard like other gummies that use gelatin. But in order to make sure the gummie set, try to be sure to activate the agar agar properly and heat it, then add the gel and heat the mixture for a minute or so. This helos to make sure the gummies set properly once cooled.
