Crispy Sweet Potato Fries

If you know me, you know I love cooking from scratch. Honestly, it is what I prefer, even when it comes to simple things like french fries! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried frozen sweet potato fries in the past. The ones you simply throw in the oven for twenty minutes and have as a side with your meal…. I didn’t like it.

Naturally, I began making my own quick sweet potato fries and I am SO happy I did. Once you see how incredibly easy it is to make you’ll never look at pre-made store-bought sweet potato fries the same again. They are also TEN TIMES more flavorful.

How to Cut Sweet Potato Fries

First, let me start off by telling you the secret to making incredible fries EVERY SINGLE TIME: It’s all in the cut!

Don’t worry, you only need basic knife skills to cut your sweet potato into the perfect fry shape. Honestly, it will only take you five minutes to simply chop a few potatoes for the perfect fries.

Step 1:

First, cut the sweet potato lengthwise into thirds. I promise you, that’s the hardest part of this entire recipe. The next steps will be a breeze.

(A very handy culinary trick to cutting round vegetables is to make a thin slice on one side and now use this side as a flat base.)

Step 2:

Now, take each of the thirds and slice them lengthwise into ¼ inch slices. Depending on the size of your sweet potato this should yield 3-5 fry-like pieces.

Step 3:

Now the next part is crucial! This is why my sweet potato fries are so killer and crazy good. Season the fries with smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, chili powder, salt, pepper, and olive oil. It sounds like a lot, but TRUST ME, these fries are going to taste incredible. (You can also simply season with salt, pepper, and olive oil, but please be generous with the seasonings for the best results.)

I like to season my fries in a bowl to make sure they are evenly coated.

Step 4:

Line the sweet potato fries on a lined baking sheet. I tend to just toss my fries on the baking sheet, but my boyfriend is more meticulous when it comes to placing the sweet potato fries and I’ve found it to work out nicely. So, place the sweet potato fries on the baking sheet and transfer to a preheated oven at 425°F.

After 15 minutes, remove the sweet potato fries from the oven and rotate them to their opposite side. Then, transfer the fries back into the oven for another 12-15 minutes.

They should appear golden with slightly browned edges when they are finished; cooked to perfection!

Absolutely fantastic recipe- I like to
Dip them in BBQ sauce! So is there a good way to reheat them? One potato made it enuf fries for two, I shared with my neighbor. But if I make them for me how do I store them and reheat them next day so they’re crispy delicious again?

      1. Hi Kate! I am happy you like the recipe! You can store them in an airtight container in the fridge and when you are ready to rewarm them you can place them in the oven for a few minutes. I usually do 350F for 3-5 minutes, or put them in the air fryer.
