What Is Maca?

Maca root, also known as Peruvian Ginseng, is a type of cruciferous vegetable that is traditionally grown in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It has an earthy, nutty flavor and can be used in meals and drinks. It is most commonly used in powder form and added to drinks, stews, and smoothies.

Maca root is an adaptogen that offers immense health benefits. There is still a lot of research being conducted regularly to further understand the benefits of maca. Here’s what the research currently tells us:

9 Benefits of Maca

Ingredients Needed To Make A Golden Turmeric Maca Latte

  • Maca Root Powder: The powder form works best for this recipe.
  • Turmeric Powder: An incredible superfood loaded with curcumin, which has powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Pinch of Freshly Ground Black Pepper: this helps your body better absorb the turmeric
  • Non-Dairy Milk: Use your favorite dairy or non-dairy milk. I like to use oat milk. You can make your own oat milk from scratch using my 5-minute Homemade Oat Milk Recipe.
  • Coconut Cream/ Full-Fat Coconut Milk: This gives the maca latte a rich, creamy texture. Use the thick part from the canned coconut milk or use canned coconut cream.
  • Natural Sweetener: Use maple syrup, agave, honey, or coconut sugar.
  • Ground Cinnamon and Pure Vanilla Extract: adds a delicious warmth that brings all the flavors together

How To Make A Maca Latte

  1. Add all the ingredients to a small saucepan and whisk over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes. You want to warm the ingredients, but do not bring them to a boil.
  2. Remove the golden maca latte from the heat and adjust the taste as needed: adding more sweetener to taste and more turmeric for a more intense flavor.
  3. Pour into a mug. Top with frothed non-dairy milk, if desired. Drink warm. Enjoy!

When is it best to drink a Maca Latte?

It is best to drink your maca latte at the start of your day, after a workout, after lunch or mid-afternoon, or after a heavy meal. Because of its energizing effects, it is best to drink it several hours before going to bed.

Want to explore more naturally energizing drinks?

I don’t drink coffee often and prefer more natural sources of energy, like maca. Maca is my favorite, and it mixes well with other superfood powders like matcha, moringa, Chaga mushroom, and cacao. Recipe Variations And Customization

  • Add Frothed Milk On Top: Feel like a top-notch barista and finish the drink with frothed non-dairy milk. I like to add frothed full-fat coconut milk on top. I use my Instant Frother to get the perfect froth. A handheld frother would also work.
  • Make it Chocolatey: Add 1-2 teaspoons of raw cacao powder for a delicious chocolate flavor.
  • Skip The Coconut Cream: The full-fat coconut milk/coconut cream helps to thicken the drink and give it a velvety texture. You can certainly skip the coconut milk if you prefer and simply use more of the milk of your choosing.
  • Add Spice: Add a pinch of allspice, cardamom, or nutmeg for more flavor. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper, which is full of antioxidants and helps improve digestion!
  • Enjoy It Iced: Allow your maca latte to cook completely and serve in a glass with ice.

Storage and Rewarming

STORE: Keep any leftover maca latte in an airtight mason jar in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also double or triple the recipe, making a large batch and storing it in the fridge for later.

REWARM: The best way to rewarm your maca latte is by pouring it into a saucepan and heating it on the stove on low heat for a few minutes, or until it is warm.

  1. I’m excited to try this! Have you ever added Chaga to this? I see you have another recipe for a chaga latte, but I’d like to do all three together (chaga, turmeric, Maca) and wondering how the flavors would combine, if it would work, and how much chaga to add. Thanks so much!

    1. Hi! I’m glad you thought the flavor was tolerable. I like maca with turmeric or maca with cacao to really cover up the flavor 🙂 Thanks for leaving a review
