I love bread. It is something I have missed since going gluten-free. Luckily, I enjoy making homemade bread and there are lots of options in today’s grocery stores. I’ve found gluten-free sourdough, rustic bread, seed bread, and much more. I have yet to find gluten-free garlic bread. However, I DID FIND gluten-free baguettes, which got me so excited because now I can make my own homemade garlic bread!

Making homemade garlic bread is super easy and you only need a few simple ingredients. It actually tastes way better than frozen premade garlic bread and packs much more of an herby, garlicky flavor! This garlic bread is so good, my fiance ate the whole plate and had no idea it was gluten-free until I told him! 🙂

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • Gluten-Free Baguette: GF Baguettes may be hard to find at the grocery store so you can order them online if you prefer. A few of the popular brands are Schar Certified Gluten-Free Baguette, Udis Gluten-Free French Baguette, or Against The Grain GF Baguette (Amazon)
  • Unsalted Butter: Use high-quality butter. Make sure the butter is at room temperature and slightly softened so that you can easily mix the ingredients together to make the garlic butter mixture.
  • Fresh Garlic Cloves: Use freshly minced garlic for the best taste (skip the jarred stuff). If you have a garlic press, this makes it easy to mince the garlic.
  • Parsley: You’ll need fresh parsley to mix into the butter and to sprinkle on top of the finished garlic bread.
  • Dried Herb Mixture: Italian Seasoning, Herbs de Provence, or any dried herb mix works well. If you do not have dried herb seasoning on hand, you can always add more fresh herbs like oregano and basil (a half tablespoon of each).
  • Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese: This is totally optional but helps to create the best cheesy garlic bread.

How To Make Gluten-Free Garlic Bread

  1. Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture. Mix together the softened butter, parsley, minced garlic, dried herb seasoning, and parmesan cheese in a small bowl.
  2. Prepare the Bread. Slice the baguettes in half horizontally. Spread the butter mixture over the halves.
  3. Bake The Bread. Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are crispy. Sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Tips and Recipe Customizations

  • Softened Butter: Remove the butter from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for one or two hours before you need it.
  • Bread Options: If you cannot find gluten-free baguettes, you can always use gluten-free hot dog buns. They work just as well! You could also use gluten-free white loaf bread. Slather garlic butter on both sides and make “Texas Toast” style garlic bread.
  • Make It Vegan: Use dairy-free butter and skip the parmesan. If you want a cheesy flavor, add nutritional yeast. (Make sure the bread you buy is gluten-free and vegan)
  • Roasted Garlic: Make roasted garlic or garlic confit to add to your garlic bread. I do not recommend using garlic powder.

Serving, Storing, and Rewarming

  • TO SERVE: Keep the bread whole or serve slices of bread. I like to serve in slices, especially when feeding a crowd.
  • TO STORE: Store any leftover garlic bread in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • TO FREEZE: Prep the bread with the garlic butter mixture. Then, wrap it in parchment paper and place it in a freezer-safe bag. Store it in the freezer for up to 2 months.
  • TO REWARM: Warm in an oven or toaster oven for 1-2 minutes, or until warmed through. If frozen, warm in the oven for 10 minutes.

LEFTOVER GARLIC BUTTER: You can store any leftover garlic butter in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to use. Use it to make more garlic bread or make buttery salmon, steak, or pasta.
