Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso
What is a shaken espresso?
A shaken espresso is a coffee drink made with espresso, sweetener, and ice tossed into a shaker or mason jar and shaken until it foams. You can then add your favorite non-dairy milk to the shaken espresso to make a delicious drink.
What Is In The iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso?
- Brown Simple Syrup: Made with brown sugar, water, and vanilla extract. You can easily double or triple the recipe to make more and leave it in the fridge so you can use it whenever you need it! If you want to make this refined sugar-free, you can try coconut sugar. I haven’t tried that yet but I’m sure it’d be delicious!
- Espresso: You can use 2-3 shots of espresso OR very strong coffee. Starbucks Blonde Espresso is typically used to make this drink. Cold brew coffee is also a great option if you do not have espresso available to you.
- Oat Milk: Unsweetened oat milk works best. Starbucks uses Oatly Brand Oat Milk, but you can use whichever oat milk you prefer. If you want to go the extra mile, you can even make your own oat milk from scratch using my 5-minute Homemade Oat Milk Recipe!
- Ice: You’ll need to fill a mason jar or shaker with ice to mix the drink. You’ll also need a bit more ice to pour the shaken drink over.
- Cocktail Shaker or Mason Jar: If you do not have a cocktail shaker at home, you can use a mason jar with a lid or wide-mouth bottle.
How To Make Starbucks Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso With Oat milk?
- Add the espresso (or coffee), cinnamon, brown sugar simple syrup, and cinnamon into a mason jar or shaker filled with ice.
- Shake the drink until it is cold, frothy, and well mixed, about 30 seconds.
- Pour over the shaken espresso over ice and top with oat milk. Stir to combine and Enjoy!
I like to make the brown sugar simple syrup in large batches and keep it in the fridge so it’s handy. It saves me a ton of time and all I need to do is grab a glass, my espresso and oat milk, and quickly prepare my brown sugar espresso drink! It saves me quite a bit of money AND it tastes just as good as ordering this Starbucks drink from a barista!
The brown simple syrup takes less than 5 minutes to prepare and is made with 3 simple ingredients: Brown Sugar, Water, and Vanilla Extract. You simply add the ingredients to a small saucepan, stir, bring it to a simmer, then remove it from the heat and let it cool before using.
How to make Brown Sugar Syrup?
- In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add brown sugar and cold water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir constantly until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Let the simple syrup simmer for 5-10 minutes. The longer the syrup simmers, the thicker it will become once cooled.
- Remove the simple syrup from the heat, stir in vanilla extract (optional), and let it cool.
- Use it as desired, and store any remaining simple syrup in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Iced espresso has a similar flavor to iced coffee, except the flavor is stronger and bolder.

How To Make This Starbucks Ice Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso Recipe If You Do Not Have Espresso?
If you do not have an espresso machine at home, you can still enjoy this tasty drink! If you have a french press, you can make your own espresso using freshly ground coffee beans. You can also use cold brew coffee for a similar taste and effect or you can brew Starbucks® by Nespresso® Blonde Espresso Roast.
Pictured above is the espresso machine I use at home. I love the professional coffee shop look of the machine, yet it is so easy to use. You can find the Brim 19 Espresso Machine On Amazon!

YAY! I am so happy you enjoy the recipe, Kaluhi!
So simple! I followed your recipe exactly and never need to stop at the coffee shop again.
This was SO good! I’ve been craving these and all the Starbucks around here are sold out of oat milk. Perfect copycat. I’d actually say it’s better than the original!
Thank you, Krystal! I am happy you enjoyed the recipe! And thank you for leaving a review!
So amazing. I tried one at Starbucks and was instantly addicted. Now I can make it at home! Yum! Thank you for sharing this.
Hi Kim! I am so glad you like the recipe!
What a perfect time to have stumbled across this recipe. Just bought loads of filter coffee powder on sale online and then started to feel guilty about it. I guess it was a calling for this recipe. Since I cannot pull this recipe as perfectly as you, I sadly have to settle with a subpar version of my efforts, haha. Thanks for sharing.
This coffee is so good! I think it is better than Starbucks, cannot wait to make it for my husband!
I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe! And thank you for sharing pictures with me on Instagram! It looked delish!
Perfect recipe for my favorite drink! Thank you! 🙂

Hi Ariana! I am so glad you like! Thanks for leaving a review!
This recipe is AMAZING!!!!! Definitely will be my go to from here on in! I just have two questions. I saw the recipe uses vanilla extract but I didn’t see it in the instructions. I poured it into the brown sugar mixture while it was heating. Did I do that correctly? Also, if I make the brown sugar syrup ahead of time, how long can I store it in the fridge for?
Hi Desiree! I am glad you like the recipe! And yes, you most certainly did it right. I’ll make sure to add that to the instructions. You can store your simple syrup in an air right container for 2-3 weeks! Thanks for leaving a comment.
How do you prepare this in bulk? Thanks!
Hi Sara! You can double, or even triple the brown sugar simple syrup recipe so that you can use it whenever you like! Just be sure to store it in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge. When you’re ready to make your drink in the morning, prepare it in a shaker or mason jar like normal.
You can also try making the drink completely. Then, remove the ice and keep the drink stored in an airtight mason jar in the fridge. It’ll probably need another good shake when you’re ready to enjoy it.
I found this recipe a few months ago, it tastes exactly like Starbucks! Came back again today to make it and ended up initially finding the incorrect recipe. I was so happy that I found your blog because there’s no other recipe out there that matches the Starbucks one except for yours.
Hi Jez! I am happy to hear that you like the recipe and find it closely matches the Starbucks drink! Thanks for leaving a review!
Absolutely divine—perfect amount of sweetness (not at all overwhelming) and a total dupe for Starbucks’! This is easily a new family favorite; thanks so much for sharing!
Hi Sophie! I am so happy you enjoy the recipe! Thank you so much for leaving a review! And, Happy New Year!
Wow, this is really good. Thanks for the recipe.
Tastes very good and super close to the original. Would recommend using only half the brown sugar syrup if you like your drink a little darker as the syrup is very sweet. Also I have a question, how do you have it as 84 calories per serving with that much brown sugar?
Tastes just like Starbucks for MUCH less money. I used swerve brown sugar replacement and it turned out just as delicious!! I will definitely be making a big batch of the simple syrup so I can have this drink anytime!
I am so glad you like the recipe! Making a large batch of the simple syrup is a great idea! You’ll save even more time making the drink. Thanks for leaving a review!
So glad I found this, it’s great! I’ve made this syrup so many times but it never thickens…any idea why that would be? I always let it cool in the pan for a few mins then put it into the fridge. It just stays the same consistency as water, no matter how long it’s in the fridge. It’s not an issue for me but I’m wondering if the drink would taste even better overall if the syrup was thicker.
Hi CJ! I’m glad you like the recipe! Thank you for the feedback. I’ve updated the post with tips to make the brown sugar simple syrup thicker. Essentially you want to let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. The longer it simmers with a low boil, the thicker the syrup will become. Hope this helps! 🙂
