Air frying is The best way to make turkey burgers. It is quick, easy, and always results in tender, juicy burger patties. These burgers are a favorite in our home and are perfect for satisfying our burger cravings!
These are the best air fryer turkey burgers because they are:
- Simple and Fast – With just a few minutes of prep and 15 minutes in the air fryer, it’s great for a weeknight meal.
- A Healthier Protein Option– Ground turkey contains less saturated fat and cholesterol than your typical ground beef burger. They are also low-carb and naturally gluten-free! (AND Whole30 and Paleo Friendly!)
- Versatile – You can mix and match sides and toppings for different flavors and meals! (Sometimes we like to skip the bun and make a turkey burger salad or load the turkey burger up with avocado crema or homemade barbecue sauce!)
Air Fryer Turkey Burger Ingredients
- Ground turkey: Although store-bought patties (frozen or fresh) can work in a pinch, I prefer homemade turkey burgers so I can flavor them just how I like!
- Garlic: Minced garlic adds tons of flavor. If you do not have fresh garlic on hand, you can always use garlic powder.
- Seasoning: My blend includes smoked paprika, chili powder, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Worcestershire sauce: This sauce ensures your turkey burgers are not bland. They’ll have a yummy umami flavor. If you do not have this, then you can sub it with coconut amino (gluten-free) or soy sauce.
How to Make Turkey Burgers In Air Fryer
- Preheat the air fryer to 370°F before cooking.
- In a large bowl, combine the ingredients. Then, form 4 equally sized burger patties.
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the turkey burgers in a single layer in the preheated air fryer. Cook at 370°F for 10 minutes. Then flip the burgers and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until cooked through. The burgers are done when a meat thermometer inserted shows an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Serve the turkey burger on a burger bun or lettuce wrap with your favorite toppings.
Turkey Burger Toppings
Turkey burgers have a lighter flavor that doesn’t overpower other ingredients so adding toppings only enhances the burger! Here are some yummy additions:
- Cheddar/Swiss: When the burgers are done, add a slice of cheese. Then close the basket to the air fryer without turning it on. In just a minute or two, you’ll have perfectly melted cheese.
- Sauce: Standard mustard and ketchup are good but maybe you want to try something different! Make one of my quick and easy vegan homemade sauces like this tangy BBQ sauce or this creamy Tzatziki sauce.
- Greens: It’s not a healthy burger without something green so consider adding jalapeños, arugula, or sliced avocado.
- Tomato: We like to add sliced heirloom tomatoes and sometimes get fancy and add air-fried green tomatoes.
- Red Onion: Red onion is great to add. If you have a bit of time on your hands, consider making caramelized onions for even more delicious goodness!
- Pickles: And by pickles, we mean pickled veggies! Try pickled onions, cucumbers, and jalapeños.
Recipe Variations
Lean Ground Turkey
You can use lean ground turkey for added nutrition. It contains less sodium than ground beef.
Turkey Burgers with Breadcrumbs
Want to add a little crunch to your burger? After seasoning and shaping the turkey patties (and before cooking), coat them in an egg wash and toss them in breadcrumbs. Use gluten-free breadcrumbs if you want to keep these turkey burgers gluten-free.
Added Flavors
If you want to add more flavor to your turkey patties, then feel free! Try spices like cajun seasoning, Italian herbs, or jerk seasoning.
What to Serve With Turkey Burgers
- Salad: If you want to cut back on carbs, then just place your burger on a fresh bed of salad. Or serve a salad on the side! This Detox Cucumber Salad would be delicious!
- Potatoes & Tots: Burgers and fries is always a favorite! Try these Sweet Potato Fries or get creative and make these Cauliflower Tots (they can be made in the air fryer too!).
- Pasta: Whip up a quick pasta to serve alongside your burgers. This Avocado Pesto Pasta and Mediterranean Pasta Salad are great options!
Leftovers & Storage Option
Store leftover patties in an airtight container or zip lock bag then place them in the fridge for up to 4 days. When you want to reheat, place them in the air fryer for 2-4 minutes at about 350˚F.
Can I prep Turkey Burgers Ahead of Time?
Yes! Make a batch then store it in an airtight container. Use parchment paper between each burger in order to prevent them from sticking together. Raw patties last in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Cooking time varies depending on the type of air fryer but typically 10-12 minutes at 375°F.
Whether you are using store-bought turkey burgers or homemade burgers that have been frozen, they can be cooked in an air fryer. Frozen turkey burgers should be placed in a 365°F preheated air fryer for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Use a thermometer to determine doneness. It should read 165°F. Alternatively, slice a small piece and see if the juices run clear.
