These shishito peppers are so good, they are almost addicting! Whether or not you’re a hot pepper fan, these edible shishito peppers are hard not to like. They’re small, mildly spicy, and benefit from air-frying for a crispy texture.

Shishito Peppers are typically served as an appetizer with a creamy dipping sauce. The peppers are often pan-seared in a lot of oil or baked in the oven. Air frying these peppers is the best because it requires minimal oil and they are ready in hardly any time!

Are Shishito Peppers Spicy?

These Japanese peppers are generally mild, but every so often you will get a spicy one. About one in ten shishito peppers is actually spicy. They range in spiciness from 50 to 200 Scoville heat units, which is spicier than a bell pepper but much milder than jalapeño peppers.

The flavor of shishito peppers is peppery and sweet, and they taste slightly smokey when roasted.

Ingredients You Will Need

  • Shishito Peppers
  • Olive Oil (or cooking oil spray)
  • Salt
  • Lemon

How To Cook Shishito Peppers In Air Fryer

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C/400°F for 3 minutes.
  2. Add the shishito peppers to the air fryer basket and drizzle with a teaspoon or two of olive oil. Give the basket a good shake so that the oil coats all the peppers. (Alternatively, you can spray the peppers lightly with olive oil cooking spray.)
  3. Place the basket in the air fryer and cook the shishito peppers for 8-10 minutes, or until the peppers are soft and blistered. Shake the basket halfway through. (It is normal to hear popping noises while the peppers are cooking.)
  4. Sprinkle with sea salt and drizzle with lemon juice. Serve and enjoy!

I made these for my football party this weekend. Everyone gobbled them up! They were pretty fun to eat and every one tried to find a spicy one. I served them with your chipotle sauce and it was so tasty!
