What you will need to make Gluten-Free Chocolate Avocado Bread:

Avocado Mixture

Avocado: I used one and a half avocados for this recipe, which gave me about 1 ¾ cups. My avocados were medium-sized. If your avocado is small, use two. I recommend using Hass avocados as they are more creamy and buttery, which is perfect for this recipe.

Applesauce: applesauce is a great egg replacement in vegan baking. It helps to bind the ingredients together and also helps to keep the finished product perfectly moist.

Coconut oil: Make sure to melt the coconut oil before adding it to the other ingredients. My favorite coconut oil is linked here.

Vanilla Extract: Vanilla is always essential when making baked goods. It helps enhance all the flavors used and provides a warm, savory taste.

Coconut Cream: Be sure to use coconut cream and not coconut milk. Coconut Cream is the thick part at the top of the can. You can make your own coconut cream by simply placing a can of Full Fat Coconut Milk, like this one, in the fridge overnight. The cream will solidify at the top and be ready for you to use. I always leave a can of full-fat coconut milk in the fridge so I always have coconut cream handy when I need to use it.

Maple syrup: This recipe is refined sugar-free, which means it’s perfectly sweetened with natural sweeteners like Maple Syrup. Here is one of my favorite brands to use!

Almond milk: You may need to add almond milk (or any other non-dairy milk) if the mixture is too dry when making the batter. I found that adding ¼ cup of almond milk gave me the perfect consistency.

Dry Ingredients

Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour: I use Bob’s Red Gluten-Free 1:1 Baking Flour. If you are not gluten intolerant, you can use regular flour, like this one.

Almond Flour: I love using almond flour, especially in this recipe. It helps make the bread fluffy and helps to retain any excess moisture in the batter.

Cocoa Powder: You can use Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder, like this one. Or you can use Raw Cacao powder for an even healthier alternative. Keep in mind that Raw Cacao Powder is slightly more bitter than Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder.

Coconut Sugar: I just LOVE using coconut sugar in baking. It tastes very similar to brown sugar but is made from coconut palm sap. Here is the coconut sugar I use. You can always substitute coconut sugar for brown sugar if you like!

Baking soda: The baking soda helps the bread rise a bit while it is baking.

Chocolate chips: We can’t forget about the chocolate chips! They just help make each bite more chocolatey and rich. Once you make the batter, you will simply fold in the chocolate chips before transferring the batter to your bread pan.

We are obsessed with avocados too. The smoothness and creaminess they add to a recipe is awesome. They really are a secret weapon in gf + v cooking. Loved the bread and will be making it again

I actually hate avocados but my Mom loves them so I tried for her. Surprisingly, I ended up loving it also as the avocado gives it great moist and rich texture, but you don’t actually get the flavor of the avocado which was perfect for me.

I’ve seen avocado popping up in a lot of uncommon places so I finally decided to test out one of the recipes I’ve been seeing! Yours was so good and I think the avocado definitely added to the overall texture (in a GOOD way)! So good!
